The Salzburg Days are being organized under the auspices of Lithuania’s president Valdas Adamkus

The 45-year anniversary of Lithuania’s cultural cooperation with the Salzburg Region of Austria will be widely celebrated in Lithuania from April to June. The Salzburg Days festivities will be inaugurated by a delegation of the regional parliament, the Landstag, led by Land Salzburg President Dr. Brigitta Pallauf, who will open the anniversary conference and exhibit on April 24.

An extensive cultural program is planned in five Lithuanian sister cities. Residents of Vilnius, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Telšiai, and Klaipėda will have the opportunity to enjoy concerts by Lithuanian and Land Salzburg musicians, while various internationally acclaimed personalities in the art sphere will visit Lithuania from Land Salzburg and Vienna.
This is the fruit of almost a half-century of personal, civic, and professional ties involving musicians, theater professionals, writers, artists, architects, and specialists in the fields of general and higher education.

The reestablishment of Lithuania’s independence opened wide the gates allowing cooperation on major international projects with our colleagues in Salzburg Land. On May 8, 1992, Lithuania’s Prime Minister Gediminas Vagnorius and Dr. Hans Katschthaler, then Governor (Landeshauptmann) of the State of Salzburg jointly confirmed the agreement signed in 1970 regarding the continuity of partnership.

The program is being arranged by the Interparlamentary Group for Relations with the Republic of Austria, Association “Ars Libera” closely working with the Embassy of the Lithuanian Republic in Austria, the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Lithuania; Erich Wagner Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Salzburg, and the Lithuania-Austria Society.
