Bernstein on Broadway I November 24th Kaunas, 25th Vilnius

Projects: Past

On November 22 – 25, 2018, at the invitation of the United States Embassy in Lithuania, famous American guests will visit and present the unique concert program “Bernstein on Broadway”, designed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the famous American composer, pianist and conductor Leonard Bernstein. This project, which has not yet been seen in our country, is part of the program designed by the US Embassy for the Lithuanian State Reconciliation Program, which aims to introduce the Lithuanian society to the best cultural traditions of the United States of America. It’s nice to mention that the famous musicians will not only perform, but also take the mastery lessons for young people studying music art. Promotion company Arts Libera International organizes this goal in Lithuania.

At the Bernstein on Broadway concert, the famous New York performers trio John Ferguson (piano), Mackenzie Thomas (soprano) and Kurt Ollmann (baritone) will invite the public to listen to the unforgettable songs of Leonardo Bernstein from musicals “West Side Story”, “The Town”, “Candide” and “Wonderful Town”. The trio of performers is long-standing music professionals who have traveled around the world. In 1993, pianist John Ferguson established the American Voices for intercultural cooperation. In addition, in 1998, he created and implemented a cycle of concerts of the centenary of George Gershwin’s music, attended by an international team of 40 different national artists from Syria and Oman to Bangladesh and Uzbekistan. The band’s soprano and mellow Mackenzie Thomas is the lead vocalist at Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. In addition to her performance with the circus, she appeared on the US National Television NBC and Broadway Classical MAMMA MIA. The singer also has a huge international experience – performances with the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Singapore Metropolitan Festival, the South Korean Philharmonic and the Taiwanese Evergreen Orchestras. The band’s band, Kurt Ollmann, became famous for singing the musical The West Side Story, which was recorded with the famous musical author L. Bernstein. He has performed in the famous Milan Hall of Pelléas at La Scala, Vienna, Rome, Washington, Los Angeles and has appeared with the famous New York City Opera. One of Kurt’s most prominent performances – in the opera Romeo and Juliet, along with Placido Domingo.

Talented performers and upcoming concerts for music fans and gourmets promise an unforgettable musical journey through the Broadway world where emotions, experiences and spiritual growth are not over. This is a gift from the US Embassy for people of Lithuania, concerts are free, but registration is recommended.
